university of oregon university health and counseling center

Built in 1965,
the University of Oregon's University Health and Counseling Center
was originally designed for what is now an out-of-date concept
of inpatient medical care. The facility now houses two separate
wellness-related University departments: the University Health
Center, which provides primary care outpatient services, education
and campus outreach in health promotion and disease prevention,
and the University Counseling and Testing Center, which provides
outpatient mental health care and houses a state-of-the-art testing
center. Swaim Associates was asked to perform a programmatic review
of the University Health and Counseling Center in preparation
for an expansion and complete remodel of the existing facility.
Through an interactive process, the project vision was established
and the program was developed. Throughout the process, the program
needs were balanced with the available budget to ensure that the
eventual design would be able to properly accommodate the program.
